Fashion Friday

Back by popular demand, here’s another serving of Fashion Friday. This week I thought I’d highlight a few of the haute summer accessories for our pint-size loves.

Don’t be fooled by these stylish accoutrements they aren’t made for adults, but rather perfectly scaled for kids.

And let's not forget the litte man in our lives.

Pink and Blue-I Love You!

I have mentioned before we are buying a house and I’ve been giving some thought to my daughter’s big girl room. You may remember the room design in an earlier post here. We won’t be updating the nursery until the end of year, but I’m a planner. I like to muse over things for a while and figure out different ways to deconstruct or redesign them. Below are just a few things I’d like to see in her pink and navy room. Of course…I’ve only just begun to scratch the surface.

I want a tole chandelier and plan to paint it a bold pink color. I found these two at
www.greatchandelier.com and they aren’t true tole but close. Truthfully I am hoping to score an eBay bargain but currently nothing listed is striking my fancy.

I’d also love to have one of these dress forms just because they are so fun! Let’s hope www.PBTeen.com keeps them in stock through the end of the year. I am also drawn to this oversized pom pom fringe pillow (white) and it's eco-friendly.

And last, one of my current obsessions is Janet Hill Studio. She’s a Canadian Etsy.com artist that captures everyday settings and beautiful accessories and transforms them into gorgeous oil paintings. I currently own three of her pieces that I plan to hang in my studio. She also reproduces her work into inexpensive and beautiful prints for framing. I love the idea of a few in my daughter’s room. Maybe these…

And if my husband has any say in the matter, there will be one of these. Of course I have veto power.

Things are Looking Up!

In the world of ceiling fans that is. I found this design tip in my recent InStyle magazine, June 2009 issue. It’s all about how to add a pop of color to an otherwise blah feature. I love this idea since I am not really a fan of fans-okay bad joke. But I love this chic on the cheap way to make them a showpiece.

I live in Houston where it gets hot! I mean tropical island, high humidity, body swelling from the heat hot! So I also understand that sometimes ceiling fans are a necessity. We are in the process of buying a home with freakishly low ceilings in some of the rooms (by the way, I am so excited and plan to share all my reno/decorating projects, but more on that later). And I think painting a ceiling fan a cool color just might be what we need in the game room. Hmm…I’m gonna need to think this one over. Click on the image below to enlarge and get the how to. Enjoy!

Sorry for the lack of posts last week. Vacation got the best of me, literally!

Great Beach Read

Sorry for the limited posts this week. I am in the Dominican Republic enjoying the sun, sand and pina coladas! I promise to post one more time this week before I return on Saturday.

Until then, here is a great beach read, Stori Telling by Tori Spelling. She spills all the details of her priviledged life, loving father and disfunctional relationship with her mother. It's an easy, mindless and entertaining read, that promises to not dissapoint.

Plus get the back story on the 90210 gang. SAUCY!

Perfectly Personalized

I love finding outstanding quality handmade items and Etsy.com is a fantastic resource to buy beautiful handmade products. When I was searching for a hair bow holder for my daughter’s hair accessories I found Candice N’ Katies Art. Handmade personalized wall plaques and hair bow holders that are gorgeously made.

The quality and craftsmanship in these items are amazing. The colors pop and paints and ribbons are beautiful. I purchased this navy and pink hair bow holder for my daughter and was doing a happy dance when I opened the box. STUNNING!

Check out her items at her Etsy store here. They make the perfect accessory to your child’s room and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

A Timeless Treasure

I love it when I accidentally find a beautiful idea for home décor. I stumble upon these silhouettes when I was doing a fabric search for a customer. Silhouettes are nothing new, but artists are coming up with more ways to modernize this timeless tradition. I think they are a stunning way to capture the angelic features of your little ones.

I had silhouettes made of my family a while back and am waiting to move into a house to display them in my studio. I think I’ll make a display like this one below. To customize your own visit www.SimplySilhouettes.com.

Photo Fabulous

I am a very lucky girl to have not one, but TWO extremely talented friends who photograph children and families as their paid profession.

Today I want to introduce you to Karen Beyer with Karen Beyer Photography. Below are just a few of the unbelievably gorgeous images she’s captured. Not only does she have an eye for photography but can also work some serious magic with Photoshop to give your photos a wow factor.

You can visit her website at www.KarenBeyerphotogaphy.com and check out the latest on her blog here. If you live in the greater Houston area give her a call, you won’t be disappointed. If you don’t live in Houston check out her site for some photo inspiration for your little ones.

Stay tuned and I'll introduce you to my other friend later...
