Oh by the way...

While I was on my Twilight sabatical from my blog I also ran the Houston Half Marathon on Sunday, January 17.  That's right 13.1 miles and it was awesome!  This was my second year in a row to run the event and it's always a blast.  Here are a few pics from this year.

This year I ran with my friend Christ Stout and it was so much fun to have a buddy along for ride.  We were so happy to see our family cheering us on.

This picture cracks me up.  It looks like we are walking, but we are actually running.  Last year I ran in shorts and froze my but off.  Yes I was actually freezing when I was running 13.1 miles!  This year I went for the pants.

Here we are passing the family at mile 9 and looking strong.

We finished strong running the entire distance in 2 hours and 27 minutes, not too bad.  That's 9 minutes shaved off last year's time for me.

And here's a link to my race day photos via Brightroom Event Photography.  Enjoy!

Makes My Heart Flutter

While fabric shopping for a client I stumbled upon this pattern and something about it got my heart racing.  I just love it.  I am a sucker for a beautiful trellis print and scrolls.  The pattern is Ivory Scroll Leanika by Dena Designs for Free Spirit and you can buy it here.

And it comes in pink!

Sassy Spring Styles for Tots

I love spring clothing.  Personally it's my favorite seasonal wardrobe because it's the best of both extremes.  The weather is cool enough to still sport your favorite jackets, scarves and sweaters, but the warm air blows in the sundresses, skirts and shorts.

While scouting Old Navy last night I found these cheap-on-the-chic spring styles for girls.  I can't wait to start dressing my tot in these.

My favorite Valentines t-shirt by far!

Urban Grace Nursery Update

Hello friends!  The fog has lifted from my Twilight Sage sabatical and it was so much fun.  I am a bit sad the series is over but as they say, all good things must come to an end.  And so now here I am to give my poor little niglected blog some much needed TLC.

First up, one of my very favorite design blogs Urban Grace Interiors posted a nursery update and, of course it's just as lovely as I imagined it would be.  For all the detials click here

Team Edward

I make no apologies for the lack of posts these past few days. I have been working a lot and when I am not with my family and working, I have recently become obsessed with the Twilight books. Yes that's right, I have succumbed to the teen drama that millions of people have already been addicted to (I know about a few years late).

It all started when I rented Twilight to see what all the hype was about. Well...let's just say I am team Edward all the way (with a body like Jacob)! Overall I thought the movie was good since my expectations were low. I had heard from many that the movie was good or okay but the books are awesome.

What can I say, I am a hopeless romantic. If Edward approached me in a dark alley I would surrender my neck in a heartbeat. Titanic - loved it, Splendor in the Grass - one of my all time favorite movies, The Way We Where - always drop everything to watch it every time it's on, The Notebook - cried like a baby, etc. etc.

So if you haven’t read the books, what’s all the hype about? It’s a modern day Romeo and Juliet with a twist. Edward the male lead is the perfect male; gorgeous, sexy, charming, polite, a protector, dangerous, wealthy and extremely intelligent. Okay so he’s a vampire and drinks blood - nobody’s perfect.
Bear with me I will post again and not about Twilight. Until then if you are looking for an escape – might I suggest you join the phenomenon.

Theme Room Done to Perfection- HGTV Dream Home

A new year brings a new HGTV Dream Home and naturally I love to cruise the online tour and soak up all the design details. I was especially excited to see that this year they did a child's room with a theme. A Toy Story theme, but done in a childish-sophisticated manner (now that’s an oxymoron) so it's not in-your-face over-the-top Disney. I can appreciate a child's room decorated with a specific theme in mind, but always with subtle details.

Notice how if you just remove the toys the theme is gone and the room is still a perfectly designed room that will grow with the child.  Nothing else needs to change, nuetral elegant bedding, bright and cheerful walls and simple window treatments.

The bed and bedding is my favorite part of the room.  Orange, turquoise and white bedding with just a touch of black. By the way, this is my favorite way to dress a child's bed with pillows.  Euro Sham in the back helps to anchor the bedding, standard sham and then the accent pillow for that little pop of color in a fun pattern.

Shades of Gray

Gray, charcoal, flint, slate, silver, pewter, smoke or platinum (my personal favorite) call it what you want it's all shades of gray.  By many reader requests, here are more gray fabric options.  Of course in the world of fabrics, these are the affordable ones.  If we going high dollar that's whole nother post.

You can find these at premierprintsinc.com

These at Fabrics.com

And these at Calicocorners.com

Gray is the new Black AND Blue

Incase you haven't noticed, gray is THE color of the moment.  Interior designers, home furnishing stores and design magazines all claim gray is the color to have in every chic home.  So...if you are anything like me and are a slave to trends (I love trendy touchs in a home) then you'll want to know how to incorporate a little gray without having to overhaul all your furnishings.  By the way, any of these items below work for children and adult spaces.

Any of these rugs from West Elm would look beautiful in any room.

Even Ikea has a beautiful and affordable gray rug.

I also love these Chunky Tassel Throws from West Elm.  The throw name is Platinum.  How chic.

This Gray Damask fabric from Buyfabrics.com is one of my favorite affordable fabrics around.

And if you think gray is too drab for your taste, check out the color paired with yellow.

Restoration Hardware has painted all the interiors of their stores from their classic silversage blue to beautiful gray and the result is stunning.

These gorgeous antiqued candle sconces from Wisteria are painted a beautiful aged gray.  They are sold as a pair and would be beautiful in a girls room.

Another option for lighting, this gorgeous platinum pendant shade from West Elm.

Love this gray hutch from Layla Grace.

For those of you who have some serious cash to spend, there is this beautiful Gustav Gray children's furniture set from Posh Tots.

Or if your cash flow is more in line with mine, then perhaps this more affordable Ikea option in dark charcoal gray.  This vanity would make a perfect desk for a child.  You can see the entire Edland line from Ikea here.

And yes even our beloved Pottery Barn is riding the gray train with their PB Teen line.  Check out just one of their new bedding styles for boys.  Gray, of course.
